Assistant Professor – Information Systems

Position: Tenure Track

The Business Administration Program at Roanoke College seeks to hire a full-time, tenure-track faculty member effective August 2021.  The successful candidate will have a demonstrated proficiency in teaching information systems, operations management, or business analytics.  They will also have a passion for teaching and mentoring undergraduate students at a strong residential liberal arts college.  The standard teaching load is 6 courses per year.  All faculty are expected to teach in the general education curriculum (Intellectual Inquiry).  Every third year the candidate is expected to teach an Intensive Learning (May term) course.  This opportunity allows faculty to develop an experiential three-week course in their area of interest - the course can be an on-campus or travel course.  Professional research and scholarship are expected and are financially supported through travel funds and internal grants.

Program:

For ten consecutive years, the Princeton Review has listed Roanoke College among the nation's great schools for students who major in business/finance.  The Department of Business Administration and Economics offers two degree programs: the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and the Bachelor of Arts in Economics (BA).  Each of these degrees, as every degree at Roanoke College, requires the completion of the General Education Curriculum in the Liberal Arts.  The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) major is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).

Roanoke College:

Roanoke College is a nationally ranked residential liberal arts college affiliated with the Lutheran Church (ELCA), located in the Roanoke Valley of Virginia. The Roanoke Valley is known for its beautiful outdoors in the mountains of Southwest Virginia.  Roanoke College was named one of the top 20 colleges for the most beautiful campus by the Princeton Review.  We are a small liberal arts college with 2,000 undergraduate students, small class sizes, and an emphasis in teaching, mentoring and developing the whole person for our students.  Roanoke College was recently listed as one of the top “Best Undergraduate Teaching” national liberal arts colleges by the U.S. News & World Report. A Phi Beta Kappa institution, Roanoke College is an equal opportunity employer and actively seeks diversity among its faculty, staff, and students; women and members of under-represented groups are especially encouraged to apply. We also seek candidates with interests in mentoring under-represented students, diversifying curricular offerings, or sponsoring diverse community engagement. Applicants are asked to address their potential contributions in support of a diverse community in their cover letters.

Qualifications:

The preferred candidate will hold a Ph.D. or a DBA (ABD with a firm completion date also accepted) and the ability to teach/research in the following areas: information systems, information technology, operations management, business analytics, computer science, or a related field. The candidate must have a passion for teaching undergraduates in a liberal arts setting.  Although not required, industry experience in information systems is desirable.

Salary:

Salary will be competitive with other liberal arts institutions and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Important Dates:

Position begins August 1, 2021.  Review of completed applications will begin on November 16, 2020 and will continue until the position is filled.
